DATA & PERMISSIONS

Privacy policy

Policy prepared October 25, 2026 · Publisher: KHS Press

Copy Desk uses the active document to identify possible errors. It does not collect a library of student drafts.

Document access and purpose

When you run a check, Copy Desk reads supported text in the active Google Docs tab through Google Apps Script. It analyzes that text for selected common grammar patterns, the publication’s staff-style rules and LQTQ structure. Original excerpts, paragraph locations, rule descriptions and a detected structure map appear in the sidebar.

The optional name-context field processes names, roles, grades or titles that you enter for the same checking purpose. It is not connected to Skyward or a staff directory. Copy Desk does not request your email address, contacts, all Drive files or interview recordings.

Permissions

Copy Desk requests the current-document scope and permission to display its sidebar. Google’s current-document permission includes management capability; this implementation only reads supported content and changes the user’s selection when “Show in document” is clicked. It does not change document text, formatting or comments and does not create files.

Processing, storage and sharing

Checking runs on Google Apps Script. Copy Desk does not send document content to third-party checking services, AI APIs or the KHS Press website. KHS Press does not save drafts, name context or findings in a separate database, file store, browser storage or Apps Script property store. Context and findings are held for the sidebar session. Closing the sidebar discards that session’s interface data.

The app contains no document-content logging or analytics. Google processes and may retain operational information under its own service policies. The information website’s hosting provider may process ordinary web-request logs; the website does not receive draft content from the add-on.

KHS Press does not sell document data, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models. Copy Desk’s use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Support messages

If you email KHS Press, the address and information you send are received in the support mailbox and used to respond to your request. These messages are separate from automated checking. Avoid sending student personal information or full draft text unless you intend to share it. Contact KHS Press with a request concerning support correspondence.

Your controls

You control when to run the checker and what name context to enter. You can close the sidebar, uninstall the add-on and revoke its access in your Google Account settings. Your document remains in your own Google account.
